About Dr. Stapleton
Dr. Erik Stapleton is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in sports medicine, specializing in advanced orthopedic care for patients throughout Beckley, the Greenbrier Valley, and Southern West Virginia. His practice focuses on sports medicine, general orthopedics, minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery, fracture care, joint pain, arthritis, tendon and ligament injuries, and other acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions.
Originally from Tampa, Florida, Dr. Stapleton earned his bachelor's degree in biological sciences with a minor in chemistry from Florida State University, followed by a master's degree in neurological sciences from the University of South Florida. He then received his medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, where he was a member of the Sigma Sigma Phi academic honor society.
Dr. Stapleton completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell in Huntington, New York. During residency, he served in multiple leadership roles, including chief resident, and was actively involved in orthopedic research with numerous academic publications.
Following residency, Dr. Stapleton completed advanced fellowship training in sports medicine at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. During his fellowship, he gained experience caring for athletes at multiple levels and served as an assistant team physician for Merrimack College and the Boston Celtics.
Dr. Stapleton's approach is patient-centered and collaborative. He takes time to listen, explain each diagnosis clearly, and review both surgical and non-surgical treatment options. When surgery is needed, he focuses on modern techniques designed to support safe recovery and improved function. When non-surgical care is appropriate, he emphasizes evidence-based treatment options tailored to each patient's goals, lifestyle, and activity level.
As part of Elite Orthopedic Group, Dr. Stapleton is committed to expanding access to specialized orthopedic care in Beckley, the Greenbrier Valley, and across Southern West Virginia. His mission is to provide thoughtful, advanced orthopedic treatment while keeping care local, personal, and accessible.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Stapleton enjoys spending time with his family and participating in outdoor activities including golf, mountain biking, and skiing.
